DICE is working on tweaking a lot of weapons in the next Battlefield 3 patch, and we’ve now gotten some kind of idea what those changes will be. Battlefield 3 designer Alan Kertz (who supposedly left the BF3 team?) has released a weapons change list to the guys over at Symthic.com. The list shows that almost all weapons will get some sort of adjustment, both damage and accuracy wise. Here’s a roundup of the changes (you can see the full list here).

    • All assault rifles get min damage raise from 17 to 18.4
    • All sniper rifles get “one hit” kill in distances under 15 meter
    • All bolt action sniper rifles will get min damage raise from 55 to 59, and max damage raise from 75 to 80.
    • Shotgun buckshot max damage from 20 to 12.5
    • Pump action shotgun frag rounds max damage from 60 to 67
    • Auto shotgun frag rounds min damage from 10 to 5 (not 100% certain)
    • SMGs and PDWs: all have increased min. damage
    • .44 magnum now has new “1.25x upper chest damage multiplier”
    • G18, M9, M93R pistols get recoil reductions
    • All LMGs get min damage increase (varies from weapon to weapon)

Note that this is still preliminary data and that not all changes might make it into the final patch. We recently reported that the patch that was originally scheduled for February has likely been pushed to March.

The list of confirmed additions:
    • Commo Rose 2.0: a complete overhaul of the “Q”-button communications interface, with new commands, voice overs, and more.
    • Weapon specific accessory tweaks: accessories such as silencers, foregrips etc. will now be tweaked on a per weapon basis and not globally. All accessories are expected to be tweaked in this patch. For more, see a full list of accessory tweaks.
    • A fix for MAV riding will be applied
    • Random “Bad Luck” deaths will be fixed across all platforms.

A new job listing on DICE's official hiring page indicates they're ramping up their efforts to fight the war on Battlefield cheaters. Seeking an "Anti-Cheat Administrator," the new recruit "will compose an absolutely vital function to secure the online experience our games represent by actively be a part of the community and keep up to date with the current cheat exposure."

Exploits and cheating have been a problem since the game launched, with tricks like the once-popular repair bot XP glitch getting folks banned along the way. Having a dedicated staff member looking for these situations will help end them in a more timely fashion.

This new hire to the team comes in addition to the recent faulty bans and Punkbuster issues plaguing PC players of Battlefield 3. DICE's latest update on the bans states that, "we have determined that the root cause resulting in the server bans is not directly related to Battlefield 3, but rather related to select 3rd party services which server owners can use in conjunction with PunkBuster to protect their servers."

How do you check if the ban is official? "If you are able to log in to Battlelog, your account has not been banned by EA or DICE." This means that bans are server-specific and not related to Battlelog, the actual developers, or actual cheating.

Additional conflicts arose from Punkbuster and Anti-Virus conflicts, but it appears the problem has been resolved. If you're still experiencing conflicts, an automatic update should update your software. None of these current issues should effect Xbox 360 or PS3 players.

If you've played a round of Battlefield 3 with a competent team, then you will have probably encountered that helicopter/AMTRAC driver. The one teammate who is always the reliable spawnpoint and provides an effective way for gunners to rack up kills. Battlefield 3 gamers have made it clear to the developers that kill assists are way to low; that drivers/pilots should earn more, given their critical role on the battlefield. Fredrik Thylander of DICE confirmed on twitter that driver kill assists will be increased, to 50 points per assist.
